Project Background

My final project is a personal diary and an extension of the work I did for High School English. I’ve kept a diary in my iPhone notes sparingly since high school, adding to it whenever I felt inclined, and wanted to start writing down my thoughts more regularly. I decided to use my origin piece as an introduction to the personal diary I wrote for this class. The diary begins with the end of my eighth grade year and spans to the end of my freshman soccer season. I attempted to extend several of the metaphors contained in the origin piece and mention “steering my own ship” and “writing poetry on the soccer field” throughout. I also included several interludes, in order to switch perspectives and help my audience better understand the piece. I attempted to focus on two main ideas throughout: establishing setting, and discussing the friendships I made as a result of playing high school soccer. 
 
I graduated during the pandemic, and lost most of my second semester due to COVID. To this day, I sometimes still feel like I never really graduated high school. I’ve written this project to try and address some of my high school nostalgia, which I felt was a topic that a lot of my readers could relate to. I’m reasonably pleased with how my piece turned out, but writing is a continuous process that never really stops. Thank you for your attention, and I sincerely hope you enjoy my work :)
